Maternity Prep Guide

Welcome

First, congratulations on this incredible season of life! I’m so honored you’ve chosen Meagan Nicole Photography to document this chapter for your family.

Maternity sessions are about more than just documenting a baby bump — they’re about celebrating motherhood, connection, anticipation, and the beauty of this season before everything changes.

This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to help you feel fully prepared and confident for your session.

When to Schedule Your Maternity Session

Maternity sessions are typically photographed between 28–34 weeks when your bump is beautifully visible, but you’re still feeling relatively comfortable moving around.

If you’re expecting multiples or are considered high-risk, I may recommend scheduling slightly earlier.

What to Wear

Wardrobe plays a huge role in the overall feel of your images. I always recommend outfits that feel

comfortable, flattering, and timeless.

Recommended Styles

-  Long flowy dresses

-  Fitted dresses that highlight your bump

-  Neutral tones

-  Earthy colors

-  Soft textures

Avoid

-  Bright neon colors

-  Busy patterns

-  Large logos or graphics

-  Clothing that feels uncomfortable or restrictive

As part of my full-service experience, I’m happy to help with outfit planning and coordination for the entire family. I also know a ton of good maternity dress vendors.

Hair & Makeup

Professional hair and makeup can make a huge difference in helping you feel confident and relaxed during your session.

I highly recommend soft, natural makeup that enhances your features while still feeling like you. If needed, I’m always happy to provide trusted artist recommendations.

If you’re doing your own makeup:

-  Slightly more makeup than everyday photographs best

-  Avoid heavy glitter products

-  Keep your look true to your personality

What to Bring

-  Comfortable walking shoes (especially for outdoor locations)

-  Cute Shoes (for the photos)

-  Touch-up makeup items

-  Water/snacks

-  Ultrasound photos or sentimental items if desired

-  Extra outfits if planning multiple looks

Including Your Partner & Children

Partners and siblings are always encouraged to participate. These images are about documenting your growing family and the connection you already share before baby arrives.

For children, I recommend:

-  Snacks

-  Small breaks if needed

-  Keeping expectations relaxed and fun

The best images usually come from genuine interaction rather than stiff posing.

Session Day Tips

1.  Get Plenty of Rest

Try to rest the night before your session and stay hydrated throughout the day.

2.  Arrive Relaxed

Please don’t stress about posing or “knowing what to do.” I will guide you through everything naturally during the session.

My goal is for you to feel comfortable, beautiful, and fully present in the moment.

3.  Trust the Process

Some of the most beautiful images happen in between poses — the laughs, movement, connection, and quiet moments.

You do not need modeling experience to create beautiful photographs.

Most Importantly…

This season passes so quickly.

One day, these photographs will remind you not only of what this chapter looked like — but what it felt like. The anticipation, excitement, connection, and love before your baby arrived.

My goal is to preserve that for you in a timeless and meaningful way.
